So here's a piccy (finally) of the feline mask I've been working on. I need to do a couple more adjustments on the lower jaw, pop in the eyes and teeth, install hinges, etc. And hoo boy, furring is gonna be daunting. I scribbled a tribal design onto its forehead which I will later apply onto the fur. I'm rather happy with that design, actually; it turned out much better than expected. ...Looks like a funky evil eye...XD
It's cast in polyurethane resin. It's super strong! I've dropped it, stepped on it, piled stuff on it, and there's no warping or denting yet. As far as durability goes, it has passed the test! I think it's scared of me now, though. XD
Do you mind me asking what type of polyurethane resin your using and the process? I have a mask I made out of plasticine clay, I love it so much, but am not sure what to do with it now!? I tried a plaster weave overlay and hated the result, and damn near ruined my mask in the process. Any tips you can provide? Yours came out so great!
I'm using Smooth Cast 300, but I'm buying the 325 soon, as it's harder and better for masks, IMO. For the process, I used Qarrezel's AWESOME tutorial: [link] As for tips: when you're doing the detail mold with the liquid rubber, don't neglect to add the thickener. It will make life SO much easier. -_-; Also, when making keys for the mold, don't make ones that are too large, or the mother mold will tear them off when you go to remove it from the sculpt. And thanks for the compliment! I still have a lot of room for improvement, and positive encouragement goes a long way. Sorry if I didn't explain very clearly, but if you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Good luck on your mask!
It looks like a third eye! Will you be able to make mine in time for Youmacon? We can always stay up all the night the day before to finish if needed. I'll try not to screw anything up xD
